Melo Studios

Melo Studios are two luxury holiday units in Dunsborough constructed by South West Building Co. The strong rhythm of roof shapes creates an interesting street facade which which grabs attention as you drive along Naturaliste Terrace. The units which are accessed from Prowse Way comprise a double volume living space with two ensuite bedrooms leading off it. Here the ceiling slope is more gradual and lower, creating a sense of intimacy and protection as you enter the bedrooms. The main bedroom opens onto the bathroom which has a  sumptuous 1500mm diameter stone bath. The sliding doors in the bathroom lead onto a private garden courtyard to create an experience of bathing outdoors.  A sunny deck with a bbq allows outdoor living and a connection to the Dunsborough street life.

Materials chosen are polished concrete flooring, colourbond cladding in monument with infill panels of horizontal Burnt ash cladding finished with SiOO:X protective coating. Commercial grade full height glazing allows the white washed ply cathedral ceiling to continue to the outdoor area enhancing the feeling of spaciousness.

“Ingrid was instrumental in envisioning the design and plan for Melo Studios, a brief that was quite tricky from the start, it included two dwellings on a small block with a tight budget. Ingrid captured the brief perfectly, we appreciated her knowledge of design and the way in which she presented her ideas without being pushy. We also enlisted her help to draw up designs for a house renovation wanting to make it more practical for a large family. Her wealth of knowledge and design ideas were incredible, redesigning the space in a way we would never have come up with ourselves.”
